Why "Single Tree Production"?
About
Single Tree Production serves two main purposes. First it is an online portfolio and business contact point for Evan Stewart. Second, it is a platform from which the gospel of Jesus Christ can be presented to any and all who visit.
Holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Design from the Langford College of Architecture at Texas A&M University, Evan hopes to serve anybody or any organization in the area of graphic arts, digital media, or Christian ministry.
Evan has been active in professional design business for more than five years having worked for companies such as Yum! Brands, Inc. and Advent GX.
Evan has also been active in Christian church ministry for more than five years. He has led and taught Bible study classes, written study material, preached church sermons, interned with a pastor, and interned with a minister of college students.
Explaining the degree title Environmental Design
Many people are confused about what exactly the degree title "Environmental Design" means. The Bachelor's of Environmental Design (BED) at Texas A&M University began primarily as a degree program for aspiring architects. The finished degree does not offer certification as an architect, but the focus of the program is architectural design. In other words, the program is primarily intended to lead students into a graduate or master level study of architecture (which does offer architect certification). The BED program offers two paths of learning. The first is a focus of architectural design. The second is a focus in Visualization Sciences. I chose the second.
The name "environmental design" does not refer to environment friendly, or green, design. Although green design can be a part of an environmental designer's work, it is not the primary focus of study. In relation to architecture, the task of an environmental design is to design a structure that compliments, both physically and visually, the surroundings or area for which it is designed. In other words, the designer takes into consideration his or her surroundings when designing a structure. For example, a house to be built in the woods will likely compliment its environment if it is built with wood or logs rather than bricks or metal.
Within visualization sciences, a similar application is used. Visualization Science is also a misleading title. More or less, this title is a fancy way of saying "Digital Artist" or "Digital Designer". The focus of Visualization Science is to take traditional design and art and use the traditional principles with digital technology. The masters program offered at Texas A&M for a visualization science major is a program specializing in computer modeling, computer animation, digital design, and digital research. Instead of taking into consideration the natural environment, the visualization scientist takes into consideration the placement or usage of his or her design. The training provided through the bachelor's program equips the student with the knowledge and experience needed in professions such as graphic arts, layout design, advertising design, and many other digital design or art focused fields.
The BED program is currently being re-structured to better suit the needs of each study focus. When I went through the program, every student was required to take two years of architectural design. After the completion of four semesters, a student was offered the choice to continue architectural studies or begin visual science studies. The program continued for another estimated four semesters (2 years) ending with graduation.
Why "Single Tree Production"?
Single Tree Productions was the name of a mock production studio that I created during high school to display in the credits of a trivia game that I programmed for a TI-89 graphing calculator. I thought of the name after I drew a tree using the calculator as I was experimenting with the calculator’s drawing function. The image that I created looked to be a promising logo for some imaginary business and so I added the name “Single Tree Productions".
This logo and name have stuck in my mind since my high school days, but I have never employed until now. The initial name of this site was planned to be www.evanstewart.com, but this domain name was claimed by some other web user. Therefore, as I brainstormed new names for this site I remembered Single Tree Productions. I changed the plural “productions" to a singular “production" and also gave more meaning to the name.
The name Single Tree Production now brings together my passion for art/design and for Christian theology/ministry. This title satisfies my want for a name which displays my work as a design/art producer and also provides association to my work in the realm of Christian ministry. Through my work and employment relations I hope to humbly represent and point others towards the single tree of life, Jesus Christ. When Jesus Christ died on a single tree, the cross, He rose again forever creating a way to be reconciled from our sins to God. By the grace of God the Father, through the work of Jesus the Son, and by the redeeming power of the Holy Spirit I have become a single tree production; being born again into the family of God. By my work and words I hope to encourage others to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the single tree of life and the single, one and only Savior and Son of God.
