A Bit About Me...
Thank you so much for coming to visit me on this information superhighway!
I'm excited about this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and my heart for
ministering to wonderful people like you! I grew up in far west Texas on a cotton farm.
We like to say that Ft. Hancock isn't the end of the world, but you can see it from here.
Ft. Hancock is located about 50 miles southeast of El Paso on Interstate 10. You'll find
less than a handful of restaurants and you have to drive over a cattle guard to come into
town. We have two paved roads and no stop lights. It's "quaint and unique!" Call it
whatever you like, but it's home to me.
My parents raised my brother, sister and I in church and saw to it that we
were there every time the doors were open. I used to whine and complain about the excessive
church attendance; I wanted to stay home and watch horse races on TV. Looking back, I'm
glad my parents loved me enough to expose me to good teaching and the Body of Christ. At
the tender age of eight I came to the realization that I could not be perfect as Jesus was
perfect. I knew that you either went to heaven or hell when you died, so I decided that I'd
rather go to heaven and trusted Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. Through the years the Lord
has led me to a deeper revelation of what it means to be in relationship with Him.
My sophomore year in high school God brought me to a place where I was miserable.
I wasn't enjoying life because of my disobedient attitude and I couldn't enjoy sin because I had
the Holy Spirit living inside me and I found that sin didn't fit me anymore. That particular
year was a turning point in my sister's relationship with the Lord as well. He burdened her
heart to start a Bible study for students in our high school. We found out that the Fellowship
of Christian Athletes was a perfect fit for our needs. For the remainder of my high school
career I helped lead my high school's FCA chapter.
God used FCA in a powerful way in my life. FCA became a way for me to develop
leadership skills and wonderful relationships while ministering to coaches, athletes and
non-athletes for the next five years of college at Texas A&M University. I graduated in
May 2004 with my degree in agricultural journalism.
During my sophomore year in college I went on a short-term mission trip
to Mexico. On the way to Torreon, Coahuila I read The Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkenson.
Out of my prayer time in this book I began to ask the Lord to do something so great with
my life that only He would be able to receive the credit and glory. I also asked Him to
enable me to quickly learn Spanish. I believe He heard my cry and started me on a journey
I'll never forget. Since that day I have lived in Mexico for 11 months, learned Spanish,
traveled with a Spanish-speaking Christian band over much of the U.S and northern Mexico,
was able to sing on my college church's worship CD and have now recorded my first worship
CD. To God be the glory forever and ever!
In my flesh there is no good thing. He's allowed many unpleasant situations
into my life along the way to help me realize that I, personally, do not have the resources
to make the Christian life work. It is only at my point of failure that I can say, "Jesus,
I have no love so You come and be my love. I have no hope so You come and be my hope." May
I say that He is Who He says He is and He's not disappointed me. May I encourage you with
the same truth I have come to know? There is nothing the nearness of Christ cannot cure. I
didn't come up with that statement, but it's changed my perception of my relationship with Jesus.
May the Author and Giver of life begin to reveal His wonderful journey to you today.
In Him,
Jodi L. Rogers
